About Hearts & Minds

We are Hearts & Minds and we like to make people smile. We are a Scottish arts-in-health charity founded in 1997 and work across Scotland using the performing arts to encourage communication, interaction and laughter.

At Hearts & Minds we use professional performing artists who have been specially trained to use their arts skills and techniques to build meaningful and personal relationships with children, young people and people living with dementia to help them overcome the challenges and cope with the stresses of their illness or medical condition.

Our Clowndoctors Programme started in 1999. We visit with babies, children and young adults who have short and long term health conditions and sometimes life limiting conditions. We also work with children with complex needs and children who have behavioural challenges.

Our Elderflowers programme was launched in 2001 and is unique to the UK. The Elderflowers engage with people living with dementia in assessment units, psychiatric wards and long term care environments.

Our main aim is to improve lives one smile at a time.

We receive no statutory core funding so we fundraise all year round to raise what we need to deliver our programmes.
